What is Esculetin ?
Esculetine, also known as aesculin, or esculenolide, is a coumarin compound extracted from the dry bark of Fraxinus angustifolia of Oleaceae. Low purity is yellow flake or phosphate crystal. When the purity of the product is higher than 90%, Esculetin appears as white powder with melting point of 272 ~ 276℃. Insoluble in water, it can reduce Lin Pei solution and turn green when it meets ferric chloride. Esculentum can be obtained by reacting triacetoxybenzene with malic acid, or extracted from bark.

How is Esculetin's research going ?
Esculetin reduces cell proliferation by inducing cell arrest in cell cycle G1, which is related to the down-regulation of complex. Esculetin significantly inhibited the proliferation of HCC cells in a dose-dependent and time-dependent manner. In SMMC-7721 cells, it blocked the cell cycle in S phase, increased the activities of caspase-3 and caspase-9 and induced apoptosis, but had no effect on the activity of caspase-8. In vivo and in vitro experiments, Esculetin can cause the collapse of mitochondrial membrane potential, accompanied by the increase of Bax expression and the decrease of Bcl-2 expression. Esculetin has anti-proliferation activity in vivo and in vitro experiments of hepatocellular carcinoma, and its mechanism is related to mitochondrial-mediated caspase-dependent apoptosis.
