Our scientific common sense: the occurrence and harm of myopia are irreversible. That is, the eye axis becomes longer, and the state of the cornea and lens will not change back automatically as long as it changes.

| Always check your eyes. | Atropine myopia treatment |
Low concentration atropine used to control the progression of myopia is a hot spot in the research of drug control of myopia in optometry in recent years. A large number of clinical studies have confirmed its effectiveness in the control of myopia in children, which makes it possible to take a step closer to the safe control of the progression of myopia, high myopia, and pathological myopia.
Atropine is an anticholinergic drug. It is an M receptor blocker. Its main function is to relieve smooth muscle spasms. Clinically, it is often used to inhibit gland secretion, relieve gastrointestinal smooth muscle spasms, excite the respiratory center, and relieve the inhibition of the vagus nerve in the heart.
In Ophthalmology, it mainly relaxes the ciliary muscle to dilate the pupil and relax the regulation. Atropine drop mydriatic optometry is one of the essential examination steps for optometry and glasses in children under 5 years old with high hyperopia and esotropia.
We do not encourage this superstition of abusing low-concentration atropine. Atropine can enlarge the pupil, but long-term use will cause photophobia, cataract, and retinal light damage. Long-term ciliary muscle relaxation may also make it difficult to see.
Studies have found that 0.02% atropine is the highest concentration that does not cause clinical symptoms, but generally does not cause discomfort.
Studies have shown that the higher the concentration of atropine, the stronger the control effect on myopia, but at the same time, the more obvious the diopter rebound after drug withdrawal. Compared with other concentrations of atropine, 0.01% atropine has a stronger control effect on myopia, the rebound phenomenon is the lightest, and the adverse reaction recovers quickly. Long-term use may cause elevated intraocular pressure.
To sum up: low concentration atropine eye drops are only applicable to the rapid progress of myopia and must not be used as a routine medication for daily myopia prevention and control! It can not be used as a preventive drug for children who have not yet developed myopia!
