METYRAPONE is an adrenal cortex function inhibitor and belongs to the 11- β hydroxylase inhibitor category. The pharmacological effect of METYRAPONE is mainly achieved by inhibiting 11- β hydroxylase in the adrenal cortex, reducing the synthesis of cortisol, and thereby increasing the secretion of adrenocorticotropic hormone (ACTH).
After treatment with METYRAPONE in patients with Cushing's syndrome complicated with pregnancy, plasma cortisol levels decreased to 300-500mo1/L. The patient's condition has significantly improved. Back pain, edema, and facial congestion have all decreased. Use methyldopa to control blood pressure at 110/90mmHg. Despite continuing to take METYRAPONE, plasma cortisol levels spontaneously increased one week before delivery, similar to normal individuals. Urinary estrogen levels have been consistently low. In severe Cushing's syndrome complicated with mid-term pregnancy, it is not advisable to perform abdominal surgery hastily due to the thin and fragile skin and abdominal wall tissue. Drug therapy is more advisable than terminating pregnancy.
