Metronidazole Benzoate powder is a white or off-white solid compound at room temperature and pressure. It is the benzoate form of metronidazole, has antiprotozoal and antibacterial activities, and is mainly used to treat infections caused by a variety of anaerobic bacteria, protozoa and bacteria, such as trichomoniasis, amebiasis, vaginosis and gingivitis.

The HPLC conditions are: chromatographic column: Waters Symmetry C8, 5μm packing, 4.6 mm×250 mm; detection: UV, 271 nm; injection volume: 20μl; mobile phase: acetonitrile-0.1% glacial acetic acid-0.01 M potassium dihydrogen phosphate solution (40:60, v/v); isocratic elution at room temperature, flow rate 2.0 ml min-1.
This method separates metronidazole benzoate and its potential degradation products metronidazole and benzoic acid. The total analysis time is about 6 min, and metronidazole benzoate is eluted at about 5 min.The injection repeatability is 0.03%, and the intra-day and inter-day repeatability are 0.4% and 0.7%, respectively. This method has a linear response to samples with a concentration range of 0.2-800μg ml-1 (r=1.0000), and the detection limit and quantification limit are 0.03 and 0.2μg ml-1, respectively.
