This is a quantitative analytical method for determining low ppb levels of butanamide and acetamide in geothermal water. The analytes were concentrated by evaporation in the preparation step and then analyzed using HPLC-UV. Separation was performed by isocratic chromatography using an RP C-18 column with 30 mM phosphate buffer solution (5 mM heptanesulfonic acid and methanol (98 : 2 ratio)) as the mobile phase.
The absorbance was measured at 200 nm. The limits of detection (LOD) for BA and AA were 2.0 μg L-1 and 2.5 μg L-1, respectively. The limits of quantification (LOQ) for BA and AA were 5.7 μg L-1 and 7.7 μg L-1, respectively, at a detection wavelength of 200 nm. Achieving these levels of quantification allows for better use of these amides as tracers of thermal reactions in low-temperature hydrothermal systems.
