What is the action mechanism of this product?
Chloramphenicol acts by inhibiting bacterial protein synthesis. The antibiotic chloramphenicol powder can act on the 50S subunit of bacterial ribonucleoprotein, thereby inhibiting protein synthesis. We know that the 70S ribosome in bacterial cells is the main cellular component for protein synthesis, consisting of two subunits, 50S and 30S. Pure chloramphenicol reversibly binds to the 50S subunit on the 70S ribosome of bacteria, thereby preventing the amino acid end of aminoacyl tRNA from binding to the receptor on the ribosome. In this way, the amino acid substrate cannot interact with transpeptidase, and cannot form new peptide bonds, resulting in the inability to synthesize new proteins. However, it should be noted that chloramphenicol can also bind to the 70S of human mitochondria, thereby inhibiting protein synthesis in human mitochondria. Therefore, this product may have adverse reactions to the human body, so it must be taken into account during experiments and use. Because chloramphenicol binds reversibly to the 70S ribosome, it is considered an antibacterial antibiotic. However, it can also produce bactericidal effects on certain bacteria at high drug concentrations, and even on influenza bacteria at lower concentrations.
