Octanohydroxamic Acid

Caprylhydroxamic Acid is an ideal organic acid for bacteriostasis. It has highly selective chelation ability for iron and iron ions, and the growth of mold is limited in an environment where iron ions are limited.

At the same time, it has the best carbon chain length which can promote the degradation of cell membrane structure. Therefore, it has a strong antibacterial ability and is a new type of preservative substitute. 

 

Caprylhydroxamic Acid (CHA) has a strong inhibitory effect on fungi, and its inhibitory principle is that CHA has a highly selective chelating effect on Fe2+ and Fe3+. In an iron-restricted environment, mold growth is limited. Iron is a key element for microbial growth, and microbial releasing chelators (siderophores) trap Fe3+ from the environment and convert it to Fe2+. CHA chelating Fe3+ has a high stability constant, which can prevent mold from obtaining iron, and it is still effective at a neutral pH value, so it is an ideal organic acid for inhibiting bacteria.
