What is the mechanism of action of Decapeptide-12?

Lumixyl achieves its whitening effect by competitively binding to the active site of tyrosinase. This synthetic ten-peptide amino acid sequence is YRSRKYSSWY. Its molecular configuration can simulate the natural substrate of tyrosinase and occupy the catalytic binding area of the enzyme, preventing tyrosinase from catalyzing the oxidation of tyrosine to form (S)-α-Amino-3,4-dioxo-1,5-cyclohexadiene-1-propanoic acid. In the melanin synthesis pathway, this oxidation reaction is a key rate-limiting step. Blocking this step can reduce melanin production from the upstream.
Unlike traditional whitening ingredients, Decapeptide-12 has no cytotoxicity and its inhibitory effect on tyrosinase is reversible, making it safer to use and with fewer adverse reactions. While improving skin pigment deposition and even out the overall skin tone, it can also avoid damaging healthy skin cells as much as possible.
