How to synthesize this product?
1. Dissolve ortho toluidine in dilute sulfuric acid, cool, and add sodium nitrite solution with stirring. The reaction temperature should be controlled below 5 ℃. After the reaction is complete, heat to 40-50 ℃ until no bubbles occur, cool and filter, and refine the o-cresol by fractional distillation. Mix ortho cresol with ortho toluenesulfonic anhydride and chloroform zinc, stir and heat, react at 115-120 ℃ for 7 hours, remove the remaining ortho cresol by steam, filter to obtain ortho cresol red: ortho cresol red is refined and dissolved in glacial acetic acid, and a mixed solution of bromine and glacial acetic acid is added under stirring. After addition, heat at 40-50 ℃ for 4 hours, cool and filter to obtain bromocresol purple.
2. Dissolve the reagents toluene phenol red and bromine in acetic acid to prepare a solution, and then add the bromine acetic acid solution to the toluene phenol red acetic acid solution while stirring:
Stir continuously at 40-50 ℃ for more than 4 hours, stop heating, cool down, filter, wash the crystals with benzene, and then dry to obtain bromocresol purple.

1. Acid-base indicator, similar to bromocresol green, the structure of bromocresol purple will change with pH value. The color changes from light yellow to purplish red, which is used as an indicator of bacterial growth in some microbiological tests.
2. In the process of photographic development,It can be used as an additive in acid stop tank to indicate that the tank solution has reached neutral pH value and needs to be replaced.
