Gemfibrozil Powder is a useful medication for the reduction of triglycerides in patients with very high triglycerides serum levels. It is also approved for decreasing the risk of developing coronary heart disease (Type IIb), particularly in patients without a history of subsisting coronary heart disease symptoms.

Gemfibrozil is used for hyperlipidemia. It is suitable for patients with severe type Ⅳ or type Ⅴ hyperlipoproteinemia, high risk of coronary heart disease and ineffective treatment such as diet control and weight reduction. It is also suitable for patients with Ⅱb type hyperlipoproteinemia, high risk of coronary heart disease and ineffective treatment with diet control, weight reduction and other lipid-regulating drugs.

Gemfibrozil Powder can promote the decomposition of peripheral fat, reduce the intake of free fatty acids in the liver and reduce the formation of triglycerides in the liver, and inhibit the synthesis of very low density lipoprotein apolipoprotein and reduce the production of very low density lipoprotein. It can reduce blood triglyceride and increase blood high density lipoprotein level, and slightly reduce blood concentration of low density lipoprotein cholesterol, but in type ⅳ hyperlipoproteinemia, it may increase low density lipoprotein. Comparative studies have shown that it can reduce the occurrence of sudden death of severe coronary heart disease and myocardial infarction.
