Cesium iodide powder, abbreviated as CsI, can generate CsAtI2 when cesium iodide reacts with astatine iodide and excess I2. Therefore, AtI can be co-precipitated from CsI3 in solution. If the co-precipitate is filtered out and heated in air, astatine will evaporate first, followed by iodine, and cesium iodide will remain. Inorganic halides including CsI(Tl) are widely used as scintillating media in high-energy particle and ionizing radiation detectors. Vacuum-deposited CsI(Tl) films were first used for x-ray imaging in photoelectric converters. In advanced digital x-ray imaging, CsI(Tl) scintillator films are widely used in x-ray imaging because of their high scintillation efficiency for x-ray radiation, high spatial resolution and good matching to silicon-based readout arrays with spectral sensitivity.

Product Application
Sodium thiosulfate powder is often used as a scintillator material for electromagnetic calorimeters in particle physics experiments. Cesium iodide can be used as a spectroscope in Fourier transform spectroscopy (FT-IR) spectrometers. Cesium iodide has a wider light transmission range than the more commonly used potassium bromide spectroscope, and the use band can extend to the far infrared. But there is a problem. Optical cesium iodide crystals are very soft and have no cleavage, so it is difficult to make a flat polished surface. In addition, cesium iodide optical crystals must be stored in a dry container to prevent water from reacting with cesium iodide. Coating a layer of germanium on the surface of cesium iodide can minimize the impact of moisture in the air when exchanging spectroscopes.
As shown in the figure: it consists of two different functional units: a stack of four silicon detectors forming the entrance telescope and a cesium iodide scintillator serving as a calorimeter. Four passivated ion-implanted detectors (D1-D4) together with the top of a plastic anti-coincidence detector (D6) define a 46° full-width conical field of view with a geometric factor of 2.5 cm2 sr.
Detectors D1 and D2 are divided into segments, allowing sufficient correction for path length variations to resolve hydrogen and helium isotopes with energies below ~30 MeV/amu. Another important advantage of segmentation is its ability to implement commandable or adaptive geometric factors. When a high count rate is detected, as can be expected when the ISP approaches the termination shock, the logic disables all but the inner segments of detectors D1 and D2, thereby reducing the effective geometry factor by a factor of 10 or more .
