Acyclovir Powder, a synthetic purine nucleoside antiviral, is one of the most commonly used antiviral drugs. It is mainly used for various infections caused by herpes simplex virus, and can be used for primary or recurrent skin, mucous membrane, external genital infection and HSV infection in immune deficiency patients. As the first choice for the treatment of HSV encephalitis, it is superior to adenosine arabine in reducing morbidity and mortality. It can also be used for herpes zoster, Epstein-Barr virus, and people with immunodeficiency complicated with chickenpox and other infections. Topically applied to skin only, skin absorption is less. Converted into triphosphate compounds in vivo, it interferes with viral DNA polymerase, inhibits viral DNA replication and plays an antiviral role, which has a strong effect on viruses. Acyclovir is converted by the viral thymidine kinase to acyclovir monophosphate and then by the host cell kinase to ACyclovir triphosphate (ACV-TP, also known as acyclovir GTP). ACV-TP is a very effective inhibitor of viral DNA replication. ACV-TP competitively inhibits and inactivates viral DNA polymerase. The monophosphates are also incorporated into the viral DNA, resulting in the termination of the protein synthesis chain.

Acyclovir is a purine nucleoside derivative, has an inhibitory effect on DNA synthesis, and its anti-herpesvirus activity is 160 times stronger than that of adenosine arabine. It is clinically used for simple herpes virus encephalitis, herpes virus keratitis and external genital infection, AIDS varicella zoster virus infection and cytomegalovirus infection, chronic hepatitis B and so on.
