Levofloxacin hydrochloride is the levobortant of Ofloxacin, and its antibacterial activity is about twice that of Ofloxacin. Its main mechanism of action is to inhibit the activity of bacterial DNA rotase (bacterial topoisomerase II) and hinder bacterial DNA replication. It has the characteristics of wide antibacterial spectrum and strong antibacterial action.

Levofloxacin hydrochloride has strong antibacterial activity against most Enterobacteriaceae bacteria, such as Escherichia coli, Klebsiella, Serratia, Proteus, Shigella, Salmonella, Citrobacter, Acinetobacter, and gram-negative bacteria such as Pseudomonas aeruginosa, Haemophilus influenzae, gonorrhea, etc. It also has good antibacterial effect on some gram-positive bacteria such as methicillin-sensitive Staphylococcus, Streptococcus pneumoniae, Streptococcus pyogenes, hemolytic streptococcus and Legionella, mycoplasma and chlamydia. But it has poor effect on anaerobic bacteria and enterococcus.
